The Big Announcement: Shoot Your Kids Workshop!

Hey everybody!

We're doing it again! We are putting on our Shoot Your Kids workshop for parents and beginning photographers! It was so super fun last time, and it's going to be a blast again this time. Here's what you need to know:

When is it?
Saturday July 10th, 2010; 10am - 3:30pm (lunch provided)

Who is it for?
Moms, duh! And also, beginning photographers. Bring your cameras and learn how to use them!

Where is it?
In downtown Fayetteville again, just like last time

How much is it?
$99

Is it worth it?
Heck yeah! Here's what a couple attendees for last time said:

"Had SO much fun at the workshop! I cannot wait to shoot some cheerleading pics this afternoon and edit them! Before the class I was scared to use Photoshop Elements... now, I'm excited about it! Thanks for making it a great experience! I cannot wait for the next class!" - Tiffany

"Just wanted to thank the both of you for a great workshop. I was so pleasantly surprised that you were able to teach to many different levels - from my mom with her point-and-shoot camera to my (limited) DSLR knowledge - we all walked away with new tricks we couldn't wait to use! Thanks for staying after to answer one-on-one questions, and for your delicious dinner recommendation. Fayetteville is lovely, and your class was packed with fun and tons of information. I couldn't have planned a better mom-and-the-girls weekend if I tried!" - Jennifer

"I just wanted to send a quick note thanking you for the AMAZING workshop on Saturday. My husband kept asking me how it went and I just kept saying, “my mind is officially blown!” Not only did I have SO much fun, but I still can’t get over how much I learned. I’ve been using my camera for about 9 months and learned more about the functions and capabilities of my camera in your one-day workshop than I EVER would have been able to figure out on my own. I left on Saturday with a whole new appreciation for photography as well as a desire to keep learning. I HOPE HOPE HOPE you’ll decide to do more workshops like this…..consider me signed up!" - Laura

And most importantly, how can I sign up?
You CAN'T yet. Spread the word all weekend and I'll post the sign up info on this blog on Monday.

Yay! I'm excited!! Just one more thing... last time, the workshop sold out of spaces pretty quickly. Make sure and get yours in early, and if you're bringing a friend (you should!) kick 'em in the booty for a little motivation.

Talk to you soon,
Dale

Ellie: the Anthropologie collection, pt 2

Hey everybody!

Day two of the fabulous Ellie/Anthropologie-ish photo shoot! This might just be my favorite of the entire bunch. That is, until tomorrow. ;) I feel like such a girl when I write these posts, especially when I'm pasting links to skirts and stuff. Oh well!

Girls' silk bubble skirt (in Violet Stone): Link to skirt
Girls' storytime cardigan (in Navy): Link to cardigan
Girls' tucked cotton tee (in Deep Chartreuse): Link to shirt
The headband was from Target, but I can't find the link online. :(

Did you forget that I have a SUPER COOL ANNOUNCEMENT coming up? Hint: it has to do with a WORKSHOP! Stay tuned folks. In the meantime, here we go with day two.

Ellie: the Anthropologie collection

Hey everybody!

We have a big, fun announcement coming up as soon as Ellie's pictures run, so let's get this show on the road.

Ellie, who starts full-time school in the fall, was the recipient of some of my favorite Crew Cuts (from J. Crew) outfits in preparation for her kindergarten journey.

Today is outfit #1.
Girls' sunburst ruffle tee: Link to the shirt
Girls' layered cake skirt: Link to the skirt

The outfit, to me, is very Anthropologie-ish, so I thought we'd shoot and process in the Anthropologie style. Here are my favorites.

Of course she had to be a bit goofy for one...

Tomorrow is outfit #2, so come back for more!

Ellie's Latest Photo Shoot

Hey everybody!

I know, I know... I'm such a tease. Today I'm teasing you with this image I shot of Ellie during a to-die-for shoot we did the other day with her new to-die-for clothes. More on that later. In the meantime, be teased. :)

Latest booking: 2011 update

Hey everybody!

In the midst of all this traveling we've been fortunate to still be able to meet with some really fabulous couples (maybe our favorite part of our job).

We're now booked for January 15th, 2011, as we photography Ben and Jennifer's wedding. We met Jennifer at the Here Comes the Bride fair at the Fayetteville Town Center. She and her brother had the nicest things to say about our work and we're honored she chose us to photograph her wedding.

Also marked off the calendar, we're photographing Kane and Megan's Conway wedding on October 22nd, 2011. Way to plan ahead! October is the new May for weddings - the leaves are going to be gorgeous! Anyway, Meredith and I had dinner at Emmy's in Fort Smith with M+K and instantly hit it off - pretty much perfectly - and look forward to knowing them better over the coming year and a half.

That puts our official total for 2011 at 7 - with a couple more dates on the verge of being booked. We only guarantee that we're going to take 20 weddings, so we're now 1/3 booked! And we couldn't be happier with the couples who have picked us for their weddings.

On the Go, Again

Hey everybody!

I'm not sure when this ever stops, but we're on the go again. Weren't we just in Atlanta? I'm pretty sure, but it's all a blur. Right now, I'm in the Sheraton Lobby in Kansas City. Meredith is doing a shoot and as soon as she's finished we're off to photograph Deepa's wedding reception - we're totally look forward to it, and has made this trip to KC worthwhile.

But it doesn't end there. Tomorrow we're heading to Chicago for more shooting. Ellie's coming with us so I'm sure there is a trip to the American Girl store in my future. Remember last time?

Ellie remembers this:

But Daddy remembers this:

Yes, we travel a lot. I know it sounds glamorous. Let me just say that it's pretty draining physically, mentally, and emotionally. I'm glad I'm (relatively) young - and that Chicago has a W Hotel, or this jetsetting lifestyle would be the death of me.

Chad's Senior Portraits

Hey everybody!

Part of our fun and short Tulsa trip was to photograph Chad's senior portraits. As the third and final Robertson family member we've photographed, we come to know the family well. We love the Robertson family, and it's such an honor that they've continued to ask us to be a part of their lives. Here are some of our favorites from Chad's senior portraits:

Coming Soon: Chad's Senior Portraits

Hey everybody!

I can't wait another day to show you this adorable shot of Chad and his girlfriend, Mary Paige. She joined us for his senior portrait shoot in Tulsa last week and we wanted to throw her in a few. I love their reactions on this shot! Aren't they precious?

More of Chad's senior portraits coming tomorrow. Y'all come back now... ;)

Ellie Kate, by Ellie Benfield

Hey everybody!

Because we knew our subject so well, we decided Ellie could do a photoshoot of Ellie Kate alongside Daddy (that's me!). It was a fun shoot, and my Ellie did such a great job. I gave her the old backup 40D with a 50mm 1.8 lens (so she could handle it easily for a long period of time), and it totally did the trick. Here's a shot of her getting low to snag the shot (she's even rockin' the vertical!):

And here are some of hers: **note: I didn't do anything special to these or any artsy crops - she's straight up developing the eye!

Totally cute, huh?! I'm a proud Daddy!

W Hotel: Our home away from home

Hey everybody!
Meredith and I just got home from (yet another) trip. This time we were off to Atlanta for a secret session weekend. Meredith booked shoots and I brought a lot of work to do as she shot away.

Our home away from home is the W Hotel. Anytime we can, we stay at this hotel. It has super style and an overall great EXPERIENCE. I'm all about experience, as it's something I strive to offer our clients, so I totally get what they're trying to do.

Another great thing I love about the W is that is is a perfect case study in branding. Their brand is carried out in every little thing they do: from the lobby to the room decor to the whatever/whenever service. It's my secret goal to have my home look like a W Hotel someday - ha ha!

If you don't follow me on twitter, you didn't get to see my office for the past few days. I'll post the iPhone pics below. You'll see another reason why I prefer the W Hotel. :)

I will say, that I don't love traveling as much as I used to. The process itself is taxing, being away from home and from Ellie is a total drag, and I can never be as productive as I am at home, but being at the W Hotel takes away some of the pain.

Dale

Cindi's Mentor Session

Hey everybody!

At the Shoot Your Kids workshop (new one coming soon!), Cindi purchased a mentor photography session and we waited until the weather got warm again and she had a change to play around with her camera. We did the photography mentor session in Tulsa last week with her daughter, Ellie Kate. Ellie Kate is such a sweetie pie - I just adore her!

My favorite is this shot where she is pouting. HOW CUTE!

Take a look at our other favorites...

Stay tuned for the announcement for the next Shoot Your Kids workshop!

Robert's Newborn Session

Hey everybody,

Meredith and I are having a really great time in Atlanta. I feel bad... she's working like crazy and today I laid at the pool. That's just not right. ;)
I have a feeling tomorrow will be more of the same. I will say, however, that this is the first time I've taken a trip without my camera in... well... I don't know when. It's been really nice to be able to relax a little bit.

I have been working on photos, though. That never escapes me. Ha ha! I love toning photos, though - it's very therapeutic to me. And today, well tonight, I have a newborn baby to show you!

Agatha and Robert won a session in the silent auction at the American Diabetes Association's Kiss a Pig Gala from us. Benfield Photography looooooves giving back! And it's such a great cause!

Take a look at a few of our favorites!

Marion and Clark's WEDDING website - the FINALE!

Hey everybody!

This has been a really incredible week. I've loved sharing Marion and Clark's wedding with you, from her bridals to her traditions to her perfect little details. Today I'm unveiling something new: a WEDDING website!

You probably know that I do lots of engagement websites for our wedding couples, but we're now going to start offering wedding websites! How fun is that?! This way a couple gets to show off their wedding images to their guests, as well as fun aspects of their wedding that they get to share with the world (and with friends and family who were unable to make it to the wedding).

Because Marion and Clark had so many traditions and details, and because they adored their wedding party, they were perfect for the first ever WEDDING website. I've been working on it the past couple days after I finished their wedding images, and I just love it!

Take a look, leave a comment, and talk to you soon!
Dale

If you wanna see it in your full browser, here's the link:

Otherwise, just check it out embedded below! (if you get this in your daily email, you'll have to click the link. Thanks!

Sweet words from the Honeymooners

Hey everybody!

I love getting these emails, especially from honeymoons! The last sentence of the first paragraph is by far my favorite.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dale & Mere,
We made it safely to St. Lucia Sunday although it took us so so so many hours to recover from the wonderful celebration!! We just wanted to say Thank You for absolutely everything. The wedding would sincerely not have been the same without you two. You two are true gifts from the sweet Lord.
We are blessed to have internet in our villa and we have loved (and laughed about.....ummm shall I say wedding crasher hahahah) the pics we have seen so far. We look forward to the ones to come. Thank you again for making our day so incredibly special.
Love you both,
Marion & Clark
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We totally love y'all too!

Marion and Clark's Wedding Portraits!

Hey everybody!

I've been so very excited to share Marion and Clark's wedding portraits with you all. They are a stunning little couple, and their portraits took place the hour before sunset - hello! the BEST time of day to do them, in my opinion!
