Happy Anniversary Addie and Chad!

Hey everybody!

It's the end of June, and I always have weddings here at the end of June, haha! I'm out in Alaska today to gear up for my wedding here in Fairbanks tomorrow, and I've just been so thankful for all my clients all over the U.S. that have invested in me over the years. Addie and Chad are a precious couple and had a beautiful wedding in Carthage, MO. Here are a few highlights from their wedding day. Happy anniversary guys!

Still in awe of these shoes!

I love the backlight of this shot... how it makes her veil glow...

And this... I love this romantic wedding portrait...

Happy Anniversary Alex and John Michael!

Hey everybody!

I know I've been doing a lot of anniversaries lately but I'm just in love with all my couples! Today is one of my very favorite couples, and both of these two I consider true friends. These two are so positive and have a relationship with the Lord, who has recently blessed them with a baby (in addition to Dobby). I am so happy for them and want to congratulate them on two years of marriage!

Mother and Daughter Portrait: Chelsea and Camilla

Hey everybody!

Sometimes when I'm on a shoot I get a shot that I just freak out about. I know that I nailed the moment and exposure and everything, and I can't wait to blog it. Today, that happened during my family session with the Brown family. After shooting some of all four of the family, I did a few with just Chelsea and Camilla, who recently turned 6 months old. They're both precious and I love this image!  More from this session coming soon!

TBT: Mallory+Jake's Wedding Day, Three Years Ago

Hey everybody!

I'm doing it a bit different today. It's Thursday... Throwback Thursday... and yesterday Mallory reached out to me to say that she went back through her wedding images, all of them, and then said a bunch of nice things.  I asked if I could post what she said and asked her if she wanted to write out a little something.  It's below.  I love my couples so much and I'm so honored to capture memories for them!

Dale,
Three years ago today you captured (in my biased opinion...haha) the best image of your career. This single image captured every ounce of a "perfect wedding day." We chose to get married on my late grandmother’s birthday, June 22 to honor her. She loved a hot sunny summer day to work in her yard and the day of our wedding was nothing short of a hot southern summer day. In this image we will refer to that as the infamous "Benny Backlight" that was absolutely stunning. This image also captured the absolute essence of my wedding gown which also happens to be my mother’s wedding gown from 1980. YES, 1980…no designer for this country gal. The imperfections you see in the wrinkles of my gown was because it was so old and had been preserved for so long. I remember one of my bridesmaids being so persistent about getting those wrinkles out and I finally said just let it be. When I saw this photo I thought to myself, WOW those wrinkles reveal the age of the dress and just how perfectly sentimental it was in its condition just like that. Imperfection is not often accepted the day of a wedding, however the small imperfection of the wrinkles displayed through this image is the true beauty of something old and borrowed in my case. Ironically, imperfection was perfection in this image.

They say the perfect gift for any occasion is a gift that keeps on giving. While planning my wedding I was constantly asked the same question "what means the most to you?" Some girls say it’s the flowers, some say it’s the music, some say it’s the food but ALL say "but I want to make sure I remember that day more than anything!" My answer was always the same, "the memories mean the most to me." My biggest piece of advice for all brides-to-be is to remember that flowers die, cakes get eaten, decorations eventually come down, candles burn out, shoes go in and out of style but the memories are FOREVER. The only way to capture those candles, shoes, d├ęcor, wedding cakes and flowers are with photographs. Those memories are relived through photos for a lifetime following your big day. That, my friend is the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing to give the gift of memories through all of your photos even 3 years later.

Happy 7 Year Anniversary Janelle and Aaron

Hey everybody!

Yesterday I missed the anniversary (in typical man fashion) of one of my very favorite all time couples, Janelle and Aaron!

These two are really incredible.  They are so loyal to me and I couldn't be more thankful! Their home looks like a shrine to Benfield Photography because of all the sessions I've been able to do with them throughout the years, starting with Janelle's senior pictures long ago. I've watched this family blossom in front of my lens and you all have watched them grow on this blog as well!

Congratulations Janelle and Aaron for setting such a wonderful example of marriage!

The Most Important Blog Post I'll Ever Write...

Hey everybody!

I've written 3094 posts on this blog. And I've written more than 2700 of those in consecutive days, dating back to Dec 31, 2008.

Many of you have followed this blog for years, maybe not every day but you have been so loyal and faithful on checking in from time to time (and I'm so grateful for that!). Because of that, you've watched Ellie grow up on here. Pretty much literally! Just the "Ellie" label on here has more than 130 posts.

In all the posts I've written, this is one is the most important one of all. Today's post is where I get to share with you that Ellie has accepted Jesus into her heart! While on our daddy/daughter date to Tulsa for Father's Day, I asked her about church camp (she had just gotten back recently). She said some of the fun things she got to do, and I knew that God was putting it on my heart to ask her the most important question. "Did you ask Jesus into your heart?" And she said yes! Immediately I was filled with so many emotions: excitement was the biggest. I asked if it was a silent thing she did on her own or if she did it with a camp counselor. She said it was inside her head so I talked her through what that was like, making sure she heard all the relevant points (accepting that we are all sinners; believing that Christ is who is says He is and came to Earth and lived and was crucified to cover our sins and conquered death three days later; and then asking for forgiveness of those sins and committing your life to live the full life He created for us all).

It's what a leading Dad would do. I've been praying to the Lord to prepare me for such a talk, and I got the book "A Dad Who Leads" though I admit I haven't read it yet (but it's on my nightstand and will be the next book I get to after my current book is finished). The Lord answered this prayer that I would be ready. We talked about certain favorite verses of hers and she asked me what certain things mean. I was happy to say that I had the answers for her questions and was bold with my faith for her. We've been praying together, and our relationship (even though I wish I could see that sweet girl more!) has never been stronger!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Hey everybody!

I'm currently in St. Louis, just finished watching a Cardinals game, and caught up with one of my very best lifelong friends and fellow wedding photographer, Becker. Near the end of my stay we popped out into his backyard with his wife, Ashley, and precious baby, Audrey for a quick little session. Here's a sneak peek... more coming soon!

Singer Songwriter Night: Music Photography

Hey everybody!

I don't have a ton of experience at photographing live concerts, but it's something I absolutely LOVE doing! Madison Watkin's concert recently was one of my favorites, and recently I had the opportunity to photograph again for my friend Carter Hulsey. He's such an incredible songwriter, and I love watching him perform.

Y'all, it's hard to make money as a musician, with services like Spotify and Pandora that don't pay musicians enough to make a living doing what God has called them to do.  I'm happy to say that I help support Carter by paying $5/month through his website - that's the same as a drink at starbucks... I'd love for you to help too if you feel connected to him!  You get all his music and fun extras if you subscribe, which you can do here: carterhulsey.com

Here are a couple of my favorite shots from the concert...
